Dukes shutout two teams in two days
The Dundas Dukes swept the league games they played on Saturday and Sunday winning 13-0 over Bay City and 1-0 over Hastings. The Dukes didn't make an error in either game and young pitchers did a great job holding the opponents scoreless.
Against Bay City Chris Purcell gained his first win as a Duke and on Sunday Matt Neuger tossed a five-hitter holding Hastings scoreless. Purcell recorded four strikeouts and no walks as his teammates piled up fifteen hits and thirteen runs. The game was ended after seven innings because of the ten run rule. Maus, McDermott, Magrane, Brandt and Moore all had two hits for Dundas.
On Sunday the Dukes scored one run in the fourth inning and held on for the win. In the top of the fourth Hastings shortstop Pfeiffer tried to score on a double by Jake Gaub but was cut down at the plate on good throws by Robin Moore and Josh Maus. Javy Guevara started the Dukes fourth inning rally by singling and stealing second. He went to third on a grounder to first base by Carson Jones and scored when Doug Sylvester grounded out to second. The Dukes had bases loaded in the sixth and eighth but couldn't push across another run. Neuger got stronger as the game went on facing four batters in the sixth and seventh but taking Hastings one, two, three in the fifth, eighth and ninth. He finished the game by striking out the last two hitters. He had five strikeouts and three walks. Guevara finished the day three for four with a double. No other Duke has more than one hit.
This brings the Dukes league record to 5-5 with five league games left.
